Avatar Upload Requirements
Complete guide and specifications for uploading FBX 3D character models and animation files to Asiyst Avatar Studio.
1. Supported Upload Formats
Asiyst avatar uploads use FBX (.fbx) files exclusively.
| Asset Type | Supported Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Character Model | .fbx | Main character mesh, skeleton/armature, materials, and textures |
| Animation Files | .fbx | Individual skeletal animation clips (Idle, Walk, Talk, Wave, etc.) |
.fbx files only. Archives (.zip) and legacy .glb/.gltf files are not accepted for new avatar uploads.
---
2. Step 1 — Character File
In Step 1, upload your main character .fbx file.
Requirements:
- A clean humanoid 3D mesh (polycount recommended under 100k triangles for optimal WebGL performance).
- An articulated humanoid skeleton / armature (e.g. standard Mixamo rig with Hips, Spine, Head, Arms, and Legs).
- Embedded materials and textures (or standard PBR diffuse maps).
- Centered origin and upright orientation (+Y or +Z up axis).
3. Step 2 — Animation Files
In Step 2, add individual animation .fbx files.
You can upload animation clips one-by-one and assign each to an Animation Intent:
- Click + Add Animation to upload clips (e.g.,
Idle.fbx,Walking.fbx,Talking.fbx,Thinking.fbx,Waving.fbx).
- Select the matching Animation Intent from the dropdown.
- The server validates skeleton compatibility against your character.
- You can add multiple animations or proceed with a static character.
4. Step 3 — Review & Save
In Step 3, preview and finalize your avatar:
- Inspect the live interactive 3D preview with camera auto-framing.
- Switch between uploaded animation clips to test playback in real time.
- Optionally enable Set as Active Avatar to connect the character to your live website assistant.
- Click Save Avatar to finalize the asset in your project and generate its authoritative Avatar ID.
5. Supported Animation Intents
Asiyst uses structured animation intents to trigger natural assistant movements:
| Intent | Recommended Behavior | Typical Loop Mode |
|---|---|---|
Idle | Subtle breathing / natural standing stance | Continuous Loop |
Walking | Locomotion / forward walking cycle | Continuous Loop |
Talking | Natural conversational speech gestures | Continuous Loop during AI speech |
Thinking | Pondering / reasoning pose | Continuous Loop during AI inference |
Waving | Welcoming hand wave | One-Shot |
Pointing | Pointing gesture directing visitor attention | One-Shot |
Pointing_Forward | Pointing forward toward visitor | One-Shot |
6. Mixamo Workflow Guide
Mixamo is the recommended tool for creating Asiyst avatars:
- Download Character:
- On mixamo.com, select your character.
- Click Download > Format: FBX (.fbx) > Pose: T-Pose or Original Pose.
- Save as
Character.fbx.
- Download Animations:
- Search for animations:
Idle(e.g. *Breathing Idle*),Walking(*Walking in place*),Talking(*Talking gestures*),Waving(*Standing Wave*).- For walking/movement clips, check the In Place box.
- Click Download > Format: FBX (.fbx) > Skin: With Skin or Without Skin.
- Upload to Asiyst Avatar Studio:
- Open Avatar Studio and click Upload Avatar.
- Step 1: Upload
Character.fbx.- Step 2: Upload your animation files (
Idle.fbx,Walking.fbx, etc.) and set their intents.- Step 3: Preview in 3D and click Save Avatar.
7. Humanoid Skeleton & Rigging
To ensure animations map accurately to your character, verify that the skeleton includes:
- Root / Hips: Base parent transform
- Spine & Chest: Torso curvature
- Neck & Head: Head rotation and eye level
- Arms: Upper arm, forearm, hand, and fingers
- Legs: Thigh, calf, foot, and toes
8. File Size & Limits
- Character FBX: up to 300 MB
- Animation FBX: up to 100 MB per clip
- Number of Animations: Unlimited per character
9. Troubleshooting FBX Uploads
- Character appears too small or large: The 3D viewer automatically normalizes Mixamo centimeter scales to standard real-world dimensions.
- Missing textures / black mesh: Ensure textures are embedded in the FBX export or use standard diffuse color materials.
- Animation not playing: Verify that the animation file uses the same armature hierarchy as the character FBX.
- Character facing backwards: The 3D studio automatically corrects root orientation for standard WebGL front-facing view.
10. Pre-Upload Checklist
