Search
Semantic search queries, relevance scoring, similarity thresholds, and testing retrieval in the playground.
Overview
The Knowledge Search interface allows developers to test semantic retrieval directly against their indexed sources without running live conversational turns.
The Search Playground
- In the dashboard, open Knowledge > Playground.
- Type a sample visitor question (e.g., *"How do I rotate my public SDK key?"*).
- Click Search.
- The playground returns the top matching chunks, their exact similarity scores, and their parent documents.
Relevance Scoring & Similarity Thresholds
- Score Range: 0.0 (unrelated) to 1.0 (exact semantic match).
- Default Minimum Threshold: 0.72. Chunks scoring below this threshold are discarded to prevent irrelevant noise.
Debugging Retrieval Results
If a query returns no results:
- Verify the relevant document is in the assigned collection.
- Check if the threshold in Knowledge Settings is set too high (e.g. > 0.85).
